Award-winning Mannix Point Camping is in top company

-

“THIS is one of the most beautiful campsites in the country, with 500m of wild Atlantic coastline and the mountains of the Iveragh peninsula to gaze out over.”

So said the Irish Times in its recent survey of the ‘Top 100 Best Places to Stay’ in Ireland this summer.

But winning awards for friendly, first-class camping is nothing new at Mannix Point Camping Park in Cahersiveen. “We’ve won 17 international and national awards over the years,” Mortimer Mannix proudly informs me. “The location and atmosphere is crucial and the TripAdvisor reviews have been outstanding in terms of generating business.” Mortimer is in the camping business over three decades, a timespan augmented by his lifelong love of walking and adventure holidaying. “I’m proud of the awards and I think they speak for themselves. I’m 34 years involved in this business and I’m a walker and camper all my life so I’ve learned an awful lot from the places I visited over the years,” he added.

Music is another key selling point at Mannix Camping Park where well-known local musicians regularly pop by to play tunes and create some brilliant music sessions – something that’s now hugely popular with guests. “The guests also expect me to be here when they visit and you have to take a hands on approach in this business. People have been coming here for years because of this. We had guests staying here at Easter and around 85 percent of them knew each other from previous trips; it was like a big family reunion. That kind of familiarity is down to people returning year after year.”
