KILLARNEY LEGION

-

CO.LEAGUE Killarney Legion 1-13 Listowel Emmetts 0-13 The Legion supporters were a bit unsure as to whether it was the blazing sun or the fact that the seniors couldn’t really translate their many opportunities into scores that caused many of them to sweat but they prevailed ultimately by a goal after Conor Keane showed a cool head to net on the stroke of time.As was the case around the county not a cloud in the sky and a good job the water tax wasn’t in vogue as both teams took on as much hydration as possible. The visitors dominated the first quarter and mainly thanks to the free taking of Conor Cox managed to look comfortable leading by 3 pts.after 15 mins.this shook the Legion into action and the remainder of the half saw them produce their best football.Once again Chris Davies lead from the front and he snuffed out the threat of Cox and Danny Sheahan was commanding at full back.A run of six unanswered points saw the Legion go to the dressing room leading 7 pts.to 4.Picking up where they left off further good play added another 3 pts. and they looked to be comfortable with a 6 pt.cushion.The Emmetts however took full advantage of the many missed chances by the Legion and whittled away at the deficit to level matters with full time approaching.Fittingly Billy McGuire,Shaun Keane and Chris Davies all had a hand in setting up Conor Keane for his well taken goal which sees them return to top of the table with a game in hand. Scorers - Conor Keane 1-4,Jamie O Sullivan,4 pts.(2F),Tom Moriarty 2pts,Danny Sheahan 2 pts.Shaun Keane 1pt. The tone was set early as the forwards linked up to great effect with the defence and midfield giving a very solid foundation. It was testament to the great work being done by coaches Selina Looney,Hannah Devlin,Jason Stack and Enda Murphy since March. The improvement in the team performance’s this year was there for all to see.A word too for beaten finalists Currow who despite being beaten never gave in and no doubt they too will have better days.Comhghairdeas a cailiní,laochra óg sibh go léir.
