Talbot Grove Treatment Centre

FOLLOWING on from its successful involvement with the 2016 edition of the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle, Talbot Grove has maintained its strong relationship with the cycle for the 2017 staging.

The Castleisland-based addiction-treatment centre was first chosen as one of the cycle’s main charities during its fledgling period in the mid 1990s, and having received just under €112,000 in funding from last year’s edition of what is Munster’s biggest one-day charity fundraiser, Talbot Grove has remained within the main band of charities for this year.

Centre Executive Director Con Cremin said the funds his group received last year were for a purpose-built centre on their grounds, and one year later the charity has kept its focus on that aim.

“At Talbot Grove, we supply treatmentto those affected by alcoholism, compulsive gambling, drug addiction, eating disorders and more, and our services are delivered by a team of professionally qualified and highly experienced Addiction Counsellors in our facilities adjacent to Castleisland town,” he said of the not-for-profit service.

“We currently have capacity for 12 participants in an intensive 30-day residential treatment programme tailored to each participant’s individual needs, and we also supply information services, after-care programmes that are crucial to the recovery process, and programmes for persons who’ve been impacted by being close to someone battling an addiction. It ties in with our motto: we treat the individual, the addiction, and the family.

“Our existing facility is located in a peaceful and pleasant environment and has been a fine home for our services over many years, but our new centre will build on what we can do and ensure that we can continue to help people and measure up to all of today’s challenges, including statutory and quality requirements. Anyone who chooses us as their charity for the 2017 Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle will see their donation go towards this new centre, which is an excellent cause.”

On the topic of the cycle itself, Con acknowledged that the support the charity event has lent Talbot Grove over the years has always been very much appreciated by all at the Castleisland centre, and he is thrilled to be a part of it all again this year.

“I’m obviously delighted that we’ve been chosen again in 2017 after all the financial help we got in 2016; we received almost €112,000 last year, and that’s a magnificent help for a charity that’s about to make a bold new step. The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle also helped us out after we got off the ground in 1993, so it has contributed very significantly to Talbot Grove, and we’re beyond thankful for that.

“To be chosen to receive that support again in 2017 means a lot, and it will help us get a lot done. We’re also grateful to every cyclist who has chosen to register to cycle on our behalf on the first day in July. Anyone who has not signed up yet and is interested in doing so on behalf of Talbot Grove to do so can check www.ringofkerrycycle.ie and follow the instructions laid out.”
