St.Patricks Blennerville 2-13 Killarney Legion 3-15 Supporters would be forgiven for relaxing halfway through the second half of this Round 4 back game played in Tralee. At this stage thanks to the efficiency of Thomas Moriarty’s finishing, who scored 5 points from play, and 1-1 from midfielder Billy Maguire we had built up a 10 point lead. However as seems to be the trend in the County League this season we invited our opponents back into the game in a very lax 12 minute period where that lead was reduced to just 2 points. A point from the excellent Rob Leen steadied the ship and a goal from the games top scorer Jamie O Sullivan (who finished with 2-5 and who must be top of the scorers table in the league at this stage)) meant we saw out a game which we should have had done and dusted much earlier.In fairness St Pats were committed opponents but the manner in which they were left back into the game will be of concern to management.On the other hand when the team clicked it attacked with great vigour and a scoreline of 3-15 could easily have been added to with a bit more ruthlessness. Still picking up a sixth win out of 6 games has the team in good shape heading into the second half of the League but a collective improvement will be needed in the coming weeks to continue that progress. Outside of those already mentioned the team was best served by Damien O Sullivan, the dynamic Jack O Neill and the man in the engine room Shaun Keane. MINORS Legion Minors kicked off their EK league campaign on Thursday evening at home to Cordal/Scart. Both teams were without a number of regulars due to the rules preventing Kerry U17’s & minors from playing. This didn’t detract from the game however as both teams served up an entertaining and open brand of football. Legion, playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half dominated possession but went in at half time only leading by the minimum,1-8 to 2-4. The second half continued in a similar manner with Legion creating numerous chances but not converting many of them from good positions.The concession of a contentious goal mid-way through the 2nd half was to prove decisive as it gave the visitors a 4 pt. lead with 10 mins. left. However the lads dug deep and clawed the lead back to 2pts. with time running out. Again we created a number of goal scoring chances and were very unlucky not to convert at least one of them, hitting the crossbar on one occasion, and despite trying their hardest the draw that the minors deserved at least eluded them. Final score Legion 1-16 Cordal/Scart 3-11. U14 BOYS Kilcummin 2-5 Killarney Legion 2-15 The u14 boys got their East Kerry campaign off to a sound start with a good win away to Kilcummin.
