Ballybunion and Newcastlewest to meet in Junior Cup decider
AFTER a weekend of action at Castleisland and Ceann Sibeal Ballybunion and Newcastlewest have emerged as qualifiers and will meet in the West Munster Area Final of the Junior Cup with a spot in the Munster semi-finals at Tralee up for grabs.
Let’s begin at Castleisland where as I correctly predicted the outcome of all the first-round matches as home side beat Doneraile (3.5 to 1.5), Newcastlewest beat Berehaven (3.5 to 1.5) and Kanturk beat Glengarriff also by 3.5 to 1.5.
In the next round, I made it five out of five correct as Killarney beat Castleisland (4-1) and Newcastlewest beat Kanturk 3.5 to 1.5, however I had predicted a Killarney win in the final but it was Newcastlewest who triumphed by three matches to two to qualify, so five out of six from me on the predictions.
Meanwhile, at Ceann Sibeal, I correctly predicted three out of four in the opening round as Tralee beat Kenmare (3.5 to 1.5), Ballybunion beat Ballyheigue (41) and Killorglin received a walkover from Ring of Kerry which I’ll claim anyway as I had predicted a Killorglin win but against my prediction Dooks beat the home side (3-2).
In round two, Tralee advanced as I said they would, but it was against Dooks (4-1) not Ceann Sibeal (but I’m still claiming it) and Ballybunion beat Killorglin (4-1) which I also predicted, to set up a Ballybunion versus Tralee final with Ballybunion going through by four matches to one again as predicted.
So, after getting twelve out of a possible fourteen right, I’m feeling a little chuffed with myself as I write this.
The area final between Newcastlewest and Ballybunion will take place at Tralee Golf Club on Thursday, July 13 at 4pm.
