The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Ladies still fighting on four fronts in Inter-Club Cups
THE Kerry challenge in the Ladies Inter-Club Cups is still alive with Ballybunion into two Munster semi-finals and Tralee and Ceann Sibeal in one each.
The Munster football final was not the only sporting action in Killarney action last weekend as the picturesque O’Mahony’s Point course at Killarney Golf Club hosted the Ladies in the Munster quarter-finals of the Junior Cup, Intermediate Cup, Minor Cup and Challenge Cup.
In the Junior (Hcp-5) Ballybunion were the last remaining Kerry club and like the Kerry footballers successfully defeated Cork Golf Club to advance to the last four where they will meet either Ballykisteen or Limerick in Monkstown on July 22.
In the Intermediate Cup (Hcp 16-21) were also the last remaining Kerry side and they successfully negotiated the challenge of West Waterford on Sunday last in Killarney to advance to the semi-finals where they take on Cahir Park also in Monkstown on July 22.
In the Minor Cup (Hcp 22-27) Killarney and Tralee were the last two remaining Kerry sides and Killarney made home advantage count to advance to the semi’s at Monkstown.
Finally, in the Challenge Cup (Hcp 28-36), Ballybunion and Ceann Sibeal were the last two remaining Kerry sides and the West Kerry club came through on Sunday to reach the semi-finals at Monkstown where they will meet either Muskerry or Macroom.
I’m going to ruffle a few feathers here and say that the ILGU in Munster are very poor for providing results. In spite of a number of communications with them in recent months, I still have to rely on players and team managers that I know from various clubs to keep updated with events.
Once upon a time, the ILGU would email me practically every time one of the ladies bought a new handbag, but in the past number of years their communication leaves a lot to be desired, and this, coupled with that disaster of a golfnet website, makes it very difficult indeed to provide a top-class news service on Ladies golf.
I cannot tell you who Killarney will be playing next in the Minor Cup because the draw is not on the website and the results are not updated for days after events take place. A big improvement is badly needed.
