RAMBLING HOUSE

The monthly Rambling House session at The Sliabh Luachra Heritage Centre in Scartaglen, will be on Monday evening next July 10th at 9pm. Admission as always is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. Everyone welcome.

GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglen GAA Clubs next Lotto Draw will be on this Sunday evening July 9th in Flemings Bar. The jackpot will be E9,000 and remember if you’re not in, you can’t win.

DEATH

The death took place last weekend of John (Johnny) Reen of Barna and Toureengar­rive. The late John is survived by his sisters Margaret and Eily Mai. The deceased was laid to rest in Ballydesmo­nd Cemetery. May he Rest In Peace.

PRE-SCHOOL GRADUATION

On Monday June 26th 20 children graduated from Scartaglen Childcare Centre Preschool out of a class of 22. A wonderful evening despite the rain was had by all. There was a great selection of sweet treats and homebaking provided by the parents. A presentati­on was made on the night on behalf of the committee by chairperso­n Moira Hughes and committee member Janet Harkin to Joan O Connor. Joan is retiring after 16 years of working in our preschool. She will be dearly missed by all. We wish her well in her retirement. A big thanks to everyone for their continued support throughout the year. We are now enrolling for September 2017 for preschool morning and afternoon sessions and full and part-time places in the creche. For further informatio­n ring 066 7147962.

ROAD IMPROVEMEN­TS

For the past few weeks re-surfacing of stretches of the Castleisla­nd to Scartaglin road and the Scartaglin to Ballydesmo­nd road has been taking place and whilst road users may have been delayed and inconvenie­nced, the finished works have provided a much smoother and more even surface all round.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

The next Afternoon of Prayer in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglen will be on Sunday July 16th commencing at 2.30pm when John Delaney will be present. All are welcome.

DAYCARE CENTRE

The annual church gate collection in aid of Castleisla­nd Daycare Centre will be taken up at masses in the parish on this weekend. Your support would be appreciate­d.

COUNTY LEAGUE

Senior Co League Division 4 R7 Scart 0-4 Firies 1-15 This round 7 game was played in Pat Casey park on Thursday evening. Padraig De Brun opened the scoring in the first minute with a point for the visitors. Niall Casey levelled matters a minute later. Five Firies points to one for the home side scored by William O’Connor had the visitors leading by four at the end of first quarter. Padraig De Brun and William O’Connor swapped points before Edward Kerrisk struck for a Firies goal in the 18th minute. Three further Firies points later to one scored by Daniel Murphy from a free for Scart left the half time score Scart 0-4 Firies 1-10. Five unanswered Firies points in the second half left Firies collecting the points when a Referee Billy O’Shea blew the final whistle.
