15 countries to be represented at The Gleneagle’s upcoming Run Killarney
ONE of the country’s top running festivals is set for Killarney, with an international contingent expected to set off on the Gleneagle Hotel Run on July 22.
Featuring two races, a half-marathon and a 10-kilometre event, organisers behind Run Killarney have said that the day’s proceedings will welcome 2,400 runners of all abilities, including walkers, newcomers, and people who are looking to challenge themselves while enjoying a lovely day out.
The 2017 event will welcome participants from across the globe, with 15 countries set to be represented, hailing from addresses as exotic as Qatar, Singapore, the USA and Canada.
The two routes offer participants a chance to enjoy a run that boasts some of the world’s most noted scenery, with scenic roads winding through Killarney National Park and the grounds at Muckross house.
“We’re delighted that Run Killarney is still going strong and a significant date in the running calendar in Ireland,” organiser Oliver Kirwan said.
“We’ve been going for six years now and it’s as popular as ever with people coming from all over the world for the event. It’s a great way of promoting health and fitness in Killarney and creates a great buzz in the area for the weekend. I’d like to welcome everyone on the day,” he added.
Both routes are fast, downhill stretches. The half-marathon participants will be brought from the Gleneagle at 7.15am to Moll’s Gap for the 8.30am start, while the 10-kilometre event getting underway from the Gleneagle’s main entrance at 10.00am.
Both routes end at the Gleneagle, where an after-party and prize-giving ceremony have been arranged.
