Dr Oliver Murphy re-appointed as President of IT Tralee
IT Tralee has announced that Dr Oliver Murphy has been re-appointed as President of the college for another five year term.
A native of Limerick City, Dr. Murphy joined IT Tralee in 1994 as a Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics at the School of Business and Social Studies.
In 1996 he was appointed Head of the Department of Business and Social Studies.
In 2001, he joined the senior executive management team of the Institute after his appointment as College Registrar.
He was appointed President of IT Tralee in 2011 having held the position of Acting President for five months following the departure of former President Michael Carmody who became President of GMIT.
Chairperson of ITT’s Governing Body Lionel Alexander extended his congratulations to Dr Murphy on his appointment.
Dr Murphy said he was delighted and honoured to have been re-appointed.
“I looks forward to working with the Governing Body, staff and students and all our stakeholders to ensure that the Institute continues to grow and develop and is a key enabler of economic, social and cultural development,” said Dr Murphy.
“My key priority is to see the establishment of the Munster Technological University in collaboration with our colleagues in CIT. A University Campus in Tralee adjacent to the Kerry Technology Park will significantly contribute to the overall economic development of not only Kerry but the wider region,” he said.
“The Institute will be launching its new Strategic Plan for 2017-2021 in mid-September. This plan outlines ambitious goals and targets and I am confident that these will be met given the professionalism and expertise of all our staff and the excellent relationship we have with our stakeholders including our student body,” he said.
“Over this timeframe we intend to double the number of International fee paying students and to increase the number of part time students on on-line programmes by 50 per cent. We intend to increase our total student enrolment by 13 per cent,” Dr Murphy said.
“We also have developed a Campus Development Plan which will see all our activities delivered on our North Campus in Dromthacker,” he said.
