An Riocht fundraising right on track

-

EARLIER on this year the huge task of resurfacing the running track at An Ríocht was getting closer by the day

It was hoped that the dream would come true well on time for the Kerry Community Games Finals in June.

It did with only hours to spare as weather played its part in delaying and then facilitating a grand-stand finish.

The appearance of the finished article was and is still greatly admired by athletes of all abilities.

With little by way of grant aid from any source, the cost of the work on the track has been borne by the club.

While it has been a very exciting and satisfying couple of months for those involved in the refurbishment project – and the feedback is still coming in, there is still the matter of fundraising to attend to.

“It’s been a very exciting time for the club but this also means that a range of fundraising drives will be taking place. One of these is a fundraising gig which will be held in the River Island Hotel this weekend,” said An Ríocht AC manager, Kate McSweeney.

“The Kilkenny’s will play a fundraising gig at the hotel on this Saturday night, July 22nd and will hopefully bring a great atmosphere to the town as the band has a Facebook following of 27,518 and

tickets are on sale at the reception desk at An Ríocht,” said Kate.

The Kilkennys are a traditional Irish folk and ballad band noted for their dynamic arrangements, energetic performances and charismatic rapport with audiences across the globe.

Picking up the mantle left by acts such as The Dubliners and The Clancy Brothers, the four piece group continues to conquer tour circuits in Europe and the U.S.

In the past year they have shared stages with renowned Irish artists such as: Shane McGowan, Sharon Shannon and Finbar Furey.

The band was established by schoolmates and they began touring the length and breadth of Ireland in 1998.

In 2008 they decided to name themselves The Kilkennys after their beloved home, Kilkenny City. Based in South East Ireland, the group has evolved through the years and is anchored by founding members: Davey Cashin on vocals, mandolin, banjo, guitar, whistles; Tommy Mackey on bass, acoustic guitar, vocals; Robbie Campion on banjo, guitar, madolin, vocals and newest member Mick Martin, bodhran, uilleann pipes, low whistles, guitar, vocals.

“The band’s popularity continues to grow with every energy filled, toe tapping and hand clapping night of entertainment,” said Kate McSweeney – and could you doubt her after the sensational success of the Galway Street Club experiment of only a few short weeks ago.

Tickets are only €10 each and you can find out more on: 066 71 42199
