Duggan to do the navigating in Imokilly

CURRENT British Junior Rally champion and Junior World Rally Championsh­ip contender Rob Duggan will make rare appearance as a navigator on this weekend’s Imokilly Rally in East Cork. Duggan will co-drive for his friend, Denis Nagle, in a Nissan Micra in the junior section of the rally.

There is strong Kerry interest in the event with over 20 drivers or navigators heading from the Kingdom to the popular mid-summer event. Faha co-driver Shane Buckley is the top Kerry seed, alongside usual driver Keith Cronin in a Mitsubishi Lancer E9. The pair are former winners of the Kerry Winter Rally are seeded sixth for Sunday’s Rally.

Mike Quinn and Tony Healy are the leading all Kerry crew in their Ford Escort. They will be joined on the event by the similar cars of Tim Engright/Darina Joyce (Kilflynn/Galway, Charlie Hickey/ Johnny Hickey (Killarney) Tadhg Sullivan/Eoin O Leary (Killarney) Jason Costello/Daniel Hanratty (Ballybunni­on) and Eoin and Brenda Duffin (Kilflynn)

David Fleming and Mark Horgan break the Escort domination in their Honda Civic.

Knocknagos­hel and Tralee crew Mike Neligan and John Hurley compete in their Toyota Corolla.

Tralee-based co-driver Mikie Cleary joins Cork’s Pat Aherne in another Escort while Killarney’s Mark O Leary/Bernard Foley are the top seeds in the junior rally in their Toyota Starlet.
