SENIOR MEN: Laune Rangers picked up their first home win of the County League season on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Fossa in the sunshine at JP O’Sullivan Park. Laune Rangers were without Shane McSweeney and Patrick Carey, as well as Neil O’Brien, Pierce Tyther and Daniel Macbeth on the day, while Fossa had to make do without the injured Paudie Clifford among others. Meanwhile, the Fossa manager was returning to familiar territory as John Evans led his troops out on to the field where he saw so much success with his home club throughout the 1990s. Fossa started much better than their hosts and opened the scoring with point from Domnhaill O’Sullivan (free) and Fintan Coffey – the latter with a good score from distance. However, Rangers got going and, after Connor Clarke had pointed well, the home side were first to hit the net as David Costelloe finishing excellently following an excellent initial pass from John Tyther. Connor Clarke’s second point was sandwiched between a brace from Domnhaill O’Sullivan (1 free) to leave Rangers leading by 1-2 to 0-4 with 15 minutes played. Rangers second goal came in the 18th minute, as a great run by David Costelloe saw the forward through on goal before he was hauled to the ground inside the square for a penalty. John Tyther made no mistake from the spot kick and placed the ball to the top corner. Fossa responded well though, and had a goal of their own five minutes later as Tadgh O’Shea punched a high ball to the net from close range. Fossa added a further point in the latter stages but points from Jack O’Connor, Connor Clarke and David Costelloe left a goal between the sides at the break. Half Time Score: Laune Rangers 2-5, Fossa 1-5. Laune Rangers were dealt a blow as John Tyther was forced to withdraw with injury at Half Time. The sides were level in the 35th minute, as the first score of the second half was a Fossa goal – Tadgh O’Shea punching the ball to the net for the second time after a pass across the small square. Connor Clarke pointed his fourth of the day as his shot from an almost impossible angle snuck over the crossbar but Domnhaill O’Sullivan soon tied up the scores again. Points were traded between Rangers’ Eamonn Carey and Fossa’s Tadgh O’Shea (free) and with 15 minutes to play, the sides were level at 2-7 apiece. An excellent point from long range by Shane Daly for Rangers was soon cancelled out by Fossa captain Mark Dennehy as both sides missed chances to take control of the game. Colm O’Shea pointed a free to edge Rangers ahead followed defensive mix-up at the Fossa rear guard and after a tense final few minutes, Mike Frank Russell kicked the insurance score with an excellent point from 40 yards out deep in injury time. Full Time Score: Laune Rangers 2-10, Fossa 2-8. The result moves Laune Rangers up to fourth in the table with three Rounds to play. Fossa remain in relegation trouble. Tadgh O’Shea stood out for the visitors, scoring 2-1 in the game, while Domnhaill O’Sullivan was accurate from both playa and placed ball and Daniel O’Keeffe was highly energetic coming up from the back. Meanwhile, Connor Clarke and David Costelloe kicked some excellent points with Kieran Crowley an assured presence at centre back. However, the elder statesmen outfield for Rangers put in another big showing. John Sheehan’s energy and work rate was fantastic while Mike Frank Russell was provider for many scores on the day and finished the game by kicking the winner. The game also served another Laune Ranger with a senior debut, as Cian O’Shea was introduced late on. Laune Rangers will play St Senan’s in Mountcoal in Round eight of the County League. JUNIOR MEN: Mid Kerry Junior League Result from Tuesday, July 11: Beaufort 6-8, Laune Rangers 1-13. Laune Rangers played Glenbeigh/ Glencar at home on Tuesday last – no result at time of submission. MINOR

Laune Rangers’ County Minor Championship campaign ended on Tuesday evening (July 11), following a heartbreaking injury time loss to Dingle in Páirc an Athasigh. The home side were without injured County Minor panellist Mark Ashe, while Laune Rangers took the field without midfield pairing Darragh and Eoin O’Sullivan (injured), Seán Arthurs (suspended) and Kevin Fitzpatrick (work commitments). The reshuffling of the line-up for Rangers led to a sluggish start, and Ruadhan McCarthy capitalized by pointing Dingle ahead in the first minute. Rangers settled into the game and – with the breeze at their backs – they scored points from Shane Doona (2) and Mark O’Connor to take the lead. Dingle starlet Dylan Geaney notched his first point before Rangers hit the net for the first time – Shane Doona sending a high ball into the square towards full forward Eoin Evans, only to see it beat Evans as well as the Dingle full back and goalkeeper and bounce into the net. Rangers followed up the goal with a Dáire Cleary pointed free before Dingle struck back with a goal of their own, as Luke O’Connell received a quick passed free and slotted it to the net. With a quarter of the game played, Laune Rangers led by 1-5 to 1-2. Mark O’Connor and Ruadhan McCarthy exchanged points, but scores became hard to come by in the second quarter. Dáire Cleary (free) and Shane Doona points were cancelled out by scores by Dylan Geaney and Christopher Kane for Dingle before the short whistle to see the visitors take a two point lead into the break. Half Time Score: Dingle 1-5, Laune Rangers 1-7. Dingle opened the scoring in the second half through Ruadhan McCarthy before Rangers responded with a point from Gabriel Griffin, who was introduced shortly before the break. Geaneys Niall and Dylan pointed to bring Dingle back level, before Cian O’Shea kicked the visitors ahead with an excellent point into the breeze. The 39th minute brought Laune Rangers’ second goal, as Gabe Griffin’s deflected shot crept just under the crossbar. Griffin pointed again soon after to increase Rangers’ lead to five points, but Thomas Devane responded with an excellent point to leave Rangers ahead by 2-10 to 1-9 with a quarter to play. The breeze behind the Dingle team picked up significantly for the latter stages of the game, and this gave the hosts the boost they needed, as Laune Rangers struggled to craft any scoring chance of note. Dingle scored points through Dylan Geaney, Ruadhan McCarthy and Christopher Kane before Eoin Clifford scored a super score for Rangers. This point would prove to be Rangers’ last though, as they struggled to clear their lines against the wind. The loss of Roan Moriarty to injury late on didn’t help Rangers’ cause, as the home side’s confidence grew. As the regulation 30 minutes of the second half expired, Laune Rangers still led by two points, but there was plenty of time remaining for the home side. They hit five points through Ruadhan McCarthy (2) and Thomas Devane (3) to take the lead for the first time since the second minute. The final whistle was blown to see Rangers’ Minor Championship end in disappointment. Full Time Score: Dingle 1-17, Laune Rangers 2-11. Laune Rangers’ Championship comes to an end on an evening where they missed their four absentees, but every player that took the field did themselves proud – a number of them under-16s making a big step up. Dingle progress to the Quarter Final stages, with some stand out performers. Ruadhan McCarthy and Dylan Geaney were on hand to score some excellent points, but Thomas Devane put in a big performance and scored all three points in injury time that ultimately made the difference on the scoreboard and this trio ended with 14 points between them. Interestingly, of the 3-28 scored on the night, all bar three points came from play in a pulsating game. On a wet and windy evening in JP O’Sullivan Park, Rangers took a lead in the early stages when a Shane Doona point was followed up by a Roan Moriarty goal from a penalty, after Gearoid Hassett had been hauled down inside the square. Dr Crokes got on the scoreboard with a couple of points (1 free) before Rangers scored their second goal – Ronan O’Shea finishing well following an excellent team move. With 15 minutes played, Laune Rangers led by 2-1 to 0-2. The second quarter was owed exclusively by Crokes, as they scored two goals of their own was well as a brace of pointed frees to take a three point lead into the break. Half Time Score: Laune Rangers 2-1, Dr Crokes 2-4. Gabe Griffin and Gearoid Hassett pointed at the start of the half to reduce Crokes’ lead, but Crokes scored four unanswered points (2 frees) to lead by 2-8 to 2-3 with a quarter to play. Laune Rangers spent the final quarter on the attack in the attempt at getting back into the game. A Shane Doona free was cancelled out by a pointed free by Crokes, before Jack Evans kicked an excellent point from distance. Two further Shane Doona frees were added in the latter minutes, but the goal they sought would not come and Dr Crokes held on to clamim the win. Full Time Score: Laune Rangers 2-7, Dr Crokes 2-9.
