GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglin GAA Clubs latest lotto draw took place in Flemings Bar on Sunday evening, July 9,. The jackpot was €9,000 and was not won. Numbers drawn were 2, 9, 18 and 20 Consolatio­n prizewinne­rs in the Lucky Dip draw were as follows: €40 – Mags Somers c/o Fred O’Connor. €30 each to Debra Doolan c/o Kearney’s Bar, Ellen Collins Counguilla. €20 each to Cian Dennehy c/o Kearney’s Bar, Mary J O’Connor Knockrour West, Moss Bradley c/o Kearney’s Bar.

The next draw will be in O’Connors Bar on Sunday, July 30, for a jackpot of €9,200.

CLERICAL APPOINTMEN­TS

Dr Ray Browne Bishop of Kerry announced clerical appointmen­ts and changes last week which will come into effect from Wednesday, July 19, Fr Martin Spillane from Knockacorr­in, who was parish priest in Adrigole will be moving to Caherdanie­l and we wish Fr Martin well in his new parish and hope that he will be very happy in his new posting.

FARM SAFETY WEEK

Farm Safety Week will run from Monday next, July 24, to Friday, July 28,. The campaign will focus on a different risk each day. Farmers will be encouraged to take some time during the week to assess the safety of routine tasks. The message for Farm Safety Week is Farm Safety is a lifestyle not a slogan’.

DAYCARE CENTRE

Castleisla­nd Day Care Centre wish to thank all those who contribute­d so generously to their recent church gate collection which amounted to €1,870.

FAMINE RELIEF COLLECTION

There will be a special emergency Trócaire church collection at masses in the parish this coming weekend, with all proceeds going towards the relief of famine in East Africa where 25 million people are urgently in need of food and water.

COUNTY LEAGUE

Scartaglen lost to Beale 2-9 to 0-4 when the sides met in Round eight of the Credit Union County League which was played in Beale on Saturday evening last. At half time the score was 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of the home side. Scarts scores coming from Pa Rahilly and Mike Coakley. In the second half Pádraig Reidy cut the deficit to the bare minimum when scoring a point in the 33rd minute. That was as near as the visitors came to the opposition, who went onto score a further 2-5 with Scart replying with a point from William O’Connor. Referee Jer O’Carroll. Gunn PP Prior, who is being transferre­d to Brosna, and Fr Martin Sheehan P.P. Caherdanie­l, who is being transferre­d to Adrigole. Wishing them the very best in their new appointmen­ts.

IVERAGH VINTAGE CLUB

Iveragh Vintage Club will hold its annual field day in Waterville on Sunday, July 23, starting at midday. Lots to view and do for young and old. The nominated charity for 2017 is Iveragh Mental Health.
