Truck drivers pull out all the stops in aid of Cystic Fibrosis
SATURDAY’S Kerry Rose Truck Run has been hailed as a huge success with over 61 trucks of all shapes and sizes taking part on the day and over €4,200 being raised for the Tipperary, Limerick & Clare for Cystic Fibrosis (TLC4CF) charity.
The day, which kick started at the delayed time of about 2pm, due to the unexpected volume of trucks arriving to take part, saw the trucks take in a tour of Kerry, travellings to Annascaul, Milltown, Killarney and Castleisland before heading back to Tralee for an post drive party in the Rose Hotel.
Organised by Tony Nolan and Matt O’Regan, the day saw many drivers go above and beyond their call of duty as they donated far much more than the €50 entrance fee.
“We’re absolutely overwhelmed by the support shown by the drivers and volunteers on the day. The charity works tirelessly for people with CF in Kerry and Munster and to see such an outpouring of support was actually very emotional,” said Marisa Reidy, one of the volunteers on the day, talking to The Kerryman.
“It was also wonderful to see so many people out at their doors and on the streets in towns and villages cheering us on,” she said.
All the money raised from the day will go towards helping TLC4CF, which has recently constructed a new CF inpatient and outpatient unit in the University Hospital Limerick for people with cystic fibrosis across Munster.
Organisers have also said they would like to take the time to give a very special thanks to the incredible work done by the Gardaí, motorbike marshalls, the sponsors, the Red Cross and all those who helped to make the day what it was.
