Healy-Rae hopes to turn Tralee bar into housing
KERRY TD Michael Healy-Rae is planning to convert a well known former bar in Tralee into housing units.
The Kilgarvan based TD has applied to Kerry County Council seeking to change the use of the former Nancy Myles bar premises in Ballymullen from public house to residential use.
The planning application seeks a change of use from public house with kitchen and lounge to nine residential units.
Permission is also sought for the installation of a new access and fire escape stairs to link the ground floor bar and kitchen area with the existing residential area on the first floor.
The application was submitted on July 12 and a decision on the matter is due to be announced by the council’s planning office by September 5.
Submissions can be made on the application until August 15.
Nancy Myles Bar – which at the time was one of the Tralee’s – best known pubs – closed in early 2012.
The premises reopened later that year and briefly traded as Duffins Bar and Restaurant be- fore the establishment closed for good in 2013. It has remained unoccupied ever since.
It is understood that the extensive landmark premises – located on a large site with a sizeable garden to the rear that backs onto the Lee River – was purchased in early 2015.
The vacant bar premises was sold for an undisclosed sum and to an undisclosed buyer.
