Kerry Rose proves NCBI charity shop is worth a look

THE 2017 Kerry Rose Breda O’Mahony is getting used to second glances since she won the coveted title but she proved that NCBI charity shops – the national sight loss agency – are definitely worth looking into when she graciously accepted the challenge of a fashion makeover … budget style!

The 27-year-old lecturer from Rathmore proved her winning ways when she graciously accepted the offer to model for the shoot in a bid to show just what treasures are available at the NCBI Ashe Street shop.

Though readily admitting that she is not normally a frequenter/visitor of charity shops, Breda told The Kerryman: “I’m not but today is a game changer – I am stunned at the clothes, they are amazing”, adding “Some of my friends have picked up some fabulous items”.

Breda was decked out by another Breda, this time it was Manager of the NCBI Shop, Breda Sheehan.

The hard working manager ensured that the gorgeous Rose was dressed in clothes that truly showcased what’s on offer at the store, as well as suiting her tall and willowy frame.

First up Breda donned a stunning silk Belle and Bunty pink dress.

A much fancied piece, it would originally cost around €200 but was a bargain at just €15 at the NCBI shop. “I adore this, it is a brand that is very classy and popular and I cannot believe the price,” Breda said.

Then she twirled around in a gorgeous pink Reiss evening dress with sequinned neckline. This would look fabulous at any Rose Ball! With a retail price of over €350 it was selling in NCBI for a just €20.

She quipped: “Wow I love how the dress falls, it is so flattering and I just cannot believe the price, it is amazing, I am converted!”.

Regular customer Pearl Fitzgerald from Leith West said she was glad that she had dropped in for her regular Friday root around the NCBI shop.

“I have bought two cardigans here today for just a tenner so who would be without a cardigan! The staff are fantastic, so warm and friendly. I am delighted that the Kerry Rose has discovered the NCBI shop, I love it and believe that it offers the best value around.”

Manager Breda said the items are consistently top quality.

“I am amazed at the items that are dropped into us, so many are brand new with tags on.

“It is no exaggeration to say that we have something for everyone here. People are so generous and they know that the NCBI is a great cause”.

She revealed that top-notch designer labels are a regular on the rails and name checked Versace, Dolce and Gabanna, Armani, Red Valentino, Massimo Dutti and Preen as just some of the highly sought after brands that can be found on the rails of NCBI Tralee. Seven jeans are also regularly consigned .

NCBI PR Sally McEllistrim – a native of Barrow – said: “NCBI is so grateful to the Kerry Rose for coming here to the shop today. Our shops are an integral part of our fundraising efforts and the money spent goes towards providing the vital services for people who are blind and vision impaired in Kerry. Also, we carry some visual and magnification aids in our shops and people can always get information leaflets.

Meanwhile, last word to the lovely Kerry Rose. “NCBI does amazing work for people with sight loss and I am both privileged and humbled by coming in here today to play my small part.”
