Tralee Triathlon club gearing up for Tri Kingdom Come in Fenit

-

WITH just over a week to go to Tralee Triathlon Club’s ‘Tri Kingdom Come Triathlon’ – race day is Saturday, August 5 – preparations are well underway behind the scenes to make this year’s event the biggest and best yet.

Final entries are now being taken for the event which will attract athletes from across the county and further afield.

It is predicted that numbers will be similar to last year with up to 400 competitors expected to descend on Fenit for the triathlon.

Race director, John Quilter, is urging everyone who wants to take part to sign up now to avoid disappointment.

“This is set to be a great day out for all athletes. We have a fantastic course taking in the scenic beauty of Fenit and we guarantee a wonderful atmosphere for participants and for the public. Fenit will be buzzing on the day so come and take part in Tri Kingdom Come or come and support the participants,” said John.

The sprint triathlon involves a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run, all within the environs of Fenit. For those not ready for the Sprint distance, a Try-a-Tri event, will also be held on the day and this is ideal for triathlon beginners.

This involves a 250m swim, an 8k cycle and a 2.5k run.

Relay teams are also welcome for Tri Kingdom Come and there is set to be great competition among the numerous teams already signed up.

Tralee Triathlon Club have teamed up with the RNLI as their charity partner for the event and are raising funds for the life-saving service.

A successful table quiz has already raised substantial funds for the charity.

Athletes have also given online donations to the charity which offers a vital service to all who use the waters of Tralee bay.

The closing date for registrations is Wednesday, August 2 but organisers have warned that it is likely to be sold out before that, with more than 300 participants already signed up.

The race briefing will take place at 11am on the morning of the race with the Try-a-Tri starting at 11.30am, followed by the Sprint at 12pm.

Number collection is in Fenit from 6pm on Friday evening to 9pm and again on Saturday morning from 7am to 10am.

Road closures will be in place from 12noon to 2.30pm on the main Tralee to Fenit road and spectators, the public and the participants are asked to be mindful of the road closures.

All participants receive a sports bag, beanie hat, water bottle and medal and after the race there will be a free barbecue with entertainment from a DJ.

Registration details for Tri Kingdom Come are now on www.sportstiming.ie or through Tralee Triathlon Club’s Facebook page or website on www.traleetriclub. ie. and through Triathlon Ireland.
