The magic of Cahersiveen Festival of Music and Arts is here again ...

-

SUMMER just wouldn’t be summer without the magical contribution of the Cahersiveen Festival of Music and Arts which thankfully is here again. This year’s extravaganza marks the 22nd staging of the event which is becoming a bigger, better and more inclusive festival with something for everyone.

It all happens over the August Bank Holiday Weekend - Friday 4th to Sunday 6th and the large crowds have really taken to the outdoor concerts where on Friday night Louise Morrissey and Declan Nerney will perform. Saturday will feature the Iveragh Men’s Choir, followed by Frank and Walters; Sunday sees Celtic Vibe perform and they will be followed by Hermitage Green.

“It’s really a great family festival and the children will have plenty to occupy them over the weekend with a fancy dress parade, mini motor parade, a circus, outside the box kids Olympics, soccer and football tournaments, and a teddy bears picnic,” said Janette Murphy.

The Valerie Edworthy Memorial 5km run will start at Banks Corner at 6pm on Friday evening. There’s also an ‘Introduction to the Dark Skies’ by Steve Lynott, and some beautiful scenic and guided walks on Cnoc na dTobar and Beentee Loop.

“There’s plenty of educational and activity based events too that are structured around the musical activities which works really well. Things like sea angling, bridge fishing, terrier racing and art exhibitions are just examples of how we try to broaden the programme of events as much as possible,” Janette concluded.

It sure takes hard work and commitment to organise such a festival and the best way to support it is by heading to Cahersiveen and taking part. Show your support by purchasing a wristband and view the full festival programme now available at www.celticmusicfestival.com.
