Sive Rowing Club to host big county championship weekend…
FEW people in coastal rowing right now won’t have one eye fixed firmly on next month’s Irish Coastal Rowing Championships in Donegal and things are heating up with the county championship regattas facilitating qualification for the All Ireland showdown.
The Sive Rowing Club are delighted as this is the first time the club will host a Kerry coastal rowing fixture which takes place on August 5th and 6th. Given it’s also the August Bank Holiday weekend it’s sure to add in some extra atmosphere around the marina in Cahersiveen.
Hosting the county championship is a big deal for the club as it means the organisational effort must be in full throttle to ensure everything is in place. Sive will host 24 races over two days, 200 crews, and lots of extra footfall from interested spectators.
Kathleen McCarthy is Secretary of Sive Rowing Club and she explains what it means to the club.
“It’s a county championship and anyone with aspirations for the All Ireland’s will be keen to do well. It attracts huge crowds and by 5pm on Sunday evening there will be plenty of music and entertainment in the town to entertain people.
“There’s a lot of work in it and this is the Sive Club’s first time hosting a county championship. We have a great club of around 40 members of all ages from U12 to veteran and we’re looking forward to it.”
