Templeman wants to bring youth up through Athletic’s ranks

-

THE manager of Killarney Athletic, Stuart Templeman, said he was delighted at achieving off the double.

“It has been a great season for the lads and they were really up for this game. We knew we could not afford a dip in our performance today as Mitchels Avenue defend from deep and try to attack on the break,” he said.

“We didn’t play as good as we can in the first half but we rectified this in the second half. We knew Mitchels Avenue tactics that they would come out and try and get an early goal and rattle us but they didn’t.

“Paudie O’Connor and Eanna Kavanagh have been outstanding for us during the season and their experience and coolness is exceptional at the back while young William Courtney has been playing brilliantly since he came back after an injury.

Asked what his plans for the future were he said he will face a major challenge as after winning the double expectations will be very high for the new season.

“We want to be involved in big games and we will focus a lot of attention of bringing young players up through the ranks.

“We have got a bye in the opening round of the Keane Jewellers Champions Trophy so we won’t be out in this competition until early October and that will give players a chance to be with their families myself included and take a well deserved break.

“Winning the double is a dream come true and it caps a memorable year for the club,” Templeman added.
