Brady calls time on career after Cup win

-

KILLARNEY Athletic’s assistant manager Alan Brady said he was thrilled at winning the double.

“We are 50 years on the road so our aim always was trying winning the major competitions. We were delighted at winning Premier A and to win the Cup as well is unbelievable. We knew it was not going to be easy against Mitchels Avenue but we weathered the early storm and once we got the two goals we were in control of the game. Having already won the league going into this game was great because the same amount of pressure was not on us as we had a title in the bag.

“We played some good football defended well and could have got a few more goals but for the brilliance of Mitchels Avenue keeper David Hennessy. They were underdogs going into the game and that took the pressure off them and they came out strongly but we handled the situation comfortably.”

Brady said he is hanging up his boots after Sunday to have an opportunity to have more time with his family.

“Being involved with a team is very time consuming and I said at the start of the season I would retire at the end of the year no matter how this season went. I never knew what the season would bring but it is great now to retire with so much accomplished. The players made a huge sacrifice to give such commitment during the season and its great to see this dedication rewarded. They can take a well deserved break now for a few weeks and come back with the batteries recharged.

“We had fantastic support in the two finals and that played its part in getting us motivated and they deserve great credit for showing such loyalty. There has been a lot of great people involved in the club down through the years and it is great now that we have achieved so much this season and they can join in the celebrations.”
