LIZ Shanahan from Castleisland has been selected as the Kerry Association London Person of the Year for 2017.

A recognised leader in the Irish business community in London, Liz has developed networks between people and businesses with Irish and Kerry connections, while she also advises some of the world’s leading health organisations.

“I’m incredibly proud of being from Kerry and when I got the call to tell me I’d been chosen as Kerry Person of the Year, I was humbled and honoured,” Liz said following her selection.

It’s a wonderful award and I’m genuinely delighted, as are my proud family in Castleisland and my many in-laws and Kerry friends,” Liz added.

LIZ Shanahan is the Kerry Association London Person of the Year for 2017. The Castleisland native – who advises some of the world’s leading health organisations – will be presented with her award in October.

“I’m incredibly proud of being from Kerry and when Denis Nolan rang me to tell me I’d been chosen as Kerry Person of the Year, I was humbled and honoured,” Liz revealed.

Liz founded her first company ‘Santé Communications’ in 1994 which became one of the world’s leading healthcare consultancies. Her Irish graduate programme resulted in Santé alumni holding senior positions in international organisations around the globe.

Following the sale of Santé to the NYSE listed FTI Consulting, Liz became Global Head of Healthcare & Lifesciences. She left this position a few years ago and is now senior consultant to pharmaceutical and healthcare companies; is an ‘angel’ investor and speaks regularly on both topics, as well as the implications of Brexit.

Liz’s has extensive influence in the business community and is a member of the Global Irish Economic Forum.

Like many of Kerry’s emigrants to London in the 1980s, Liz arrived in London on the Slattery’s Bus. She currently lives in London with her husband, Tim Lacey, who hails from Tralee. She is also a member of the well-known Shanahan family (Shanahan Chemists) and when visiting Kerry spends time in their home near Killorglin.

“One of the first events I ever attended when I arrived in London was the Kerry Association Annual Dinner with my husband, Tim Lacey and his aunt and uncle, Dorothy and James O’Shea, both also proud Kerry people. It’s a wonderful award and I’m genuinely delighted, as are my proud family in Castleisland and my many in-laws and Kerry friends,” Liz added.

A recognised leader of the Irish business community abroad and hugely successful in building networks between people and businesses with Irish – especially Kerry – connections, The Irish Times named Liz one of Ireland’s ‘Women of the World’ and a global leader in Healthcare & Life-sciences.

Liz also supports Kerry Hospice Foundation, Build4Life, Talbot Grove, St Joseph’s in Killorglin and the Kerry Sports Academy. She is a regular participant in the Ring of Kerry Cycle.

“Liz will be a fantastic ambassador for our association and we are looking forward to working with her through the year,” Kerry Association London Secretary, Tara Cronin, said.
