Cahersiveen festival lights up the night sky
MIX OF LOCAL AND NATIONAL TALENT STAR AT 22ND CAHERSIVEEN MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL
“IT felt like it was sunny in Cahersiveen and raining everywhere else over the weekend,” that’s the enthusiastic summation from Janette Murphy, PRO of the Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival, as she reflected on another hugely successful year for what is one of Cahersiveen and south Kerry’s showcase events of the summer.
From early on Friday morning visitors started to fill the old town in anticipation of a party and it didn’t take long for the fun to break out as musicians, dancing, street and children’s entertainment kept everyone happy. Saturday exceeded all expectations with musicians busking their way through the afternoon warmth.
“We had the most amount of people ever for the busking on the Saturday which was hugely helped by the rare sunshine. This helped create a really great atmosphere on the day,” added Janette.
Now in its 22nd year, organisers of the Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival sure know how to put on a show, with top class acts punctuating a very well-organised weekend where volunteers put their shoulders to the wheel to help make it extra special.
And with performers like Louise Morrissey and Declan Nerney, Killorglin Pipe Band, Gavin Ring, Sumba Bands, Iveragh Men’s Choir, Frank and Walters, Celtic Vibe and Hermitage Green, it was enough to please any audience.
On Sunday the rains came but this didn’t deter the group of hardy souls from setting out for the ‘Top of the Viewing Rock’ where some quaint little fairy houses dotted the path along the way.
“Look, if you had to rely on the weather you’d get nothing done which is why you have to get on with it,” Janette continued.
“On Sunday we just moved what entertainment we could indoors and the day passed off brilliantly. Saturday was our biggest day and we’re absolutely delighted with it. Overall we were blessed with the weather. I just want to thank all the event organisers and people who together helped make the festival the success it is. We’re already looking forward to next year,” Janette added.
