‘Light up the old metal bridge’
“LIGHT up the old Metal Bridge,” is the message from Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Cahill as he called on Kerry County Council to support Killorglin’s application to transform the old bridge into what could potentially become a tourist attraction. Meanwhile, calls to support the branding and marketing of Killorglin as an adventure hub and gateway to the McGillycuddy Reeks - under the ‘Town and Village Renewal Scheme’ – was also made.
Cllr Cahill raised the joint issues at a recent meeting of South and West Kerry Municipal District saying they are “two excellent applications” and that Kerry County Council should endorse them fully.
“I believe these applications will enhance Killorglin greatly and bring additional visitors to the town” said Cllr Cahill.
He also proposed that Council management give ‘100 per cent support’ to Killorglin Chamber Alliance with regards to their application for LEADER funding to light up the old Metal Bridge.
“Such initiatives will make Killorglin discoverable on sites such as TripAdvisor and Google Trips-train local providers, which is a PR initiative focusing on National Geographic and other outdoor publications,” Cllr Cahill said.
In reply, Council management said applications submitted under LEADER are evaluated on an objective basis in relation to the criteria set out in the Local Development Strategy adopted by the Local Action Group and approved by Pobal.
