It’s all about entertainment

-

IF you thought the Glenbeigh Races was, as the name suggests, all about racing, think again. The weekend is about much more than that as organisers are keen to ensure there is something to keep everyone entertained over three days and nights. And don’t forget the Village Square Open Air Concert on Saturday night starting at 7pm.

Race committee member, Moira O’Connor, is but one of many people behind the scenes of the Glenbeigh Races and they are busy right now putting the final touches to their schedule of events. The event is now one that people outside the county look forward to and passing tourist have also stopped by on several occasions to experience just what horse racing means to people. It’s a fantastic late summer boost to the local economy also as shops, pubs and restaurants are kept busy catering for the large influx of visitors. But this isn’t taken for granted as the huge community involvement is necessary when it comes to doing the very best by what is a great event that Glenbeigh can call its own.

“It’s the community that drives the Glenbeigh Races and without them there would be no races. It’s a great event and everyone enjoys it. People now come on their holidays every year to the races, which speaks for itself about just how popular Glenbeigh Races are and what they mean to people. It’s a weekend where you can expect plenty of entertainment,” said Moira.

Music plays a huge part in the festival, as do the local businesses who put their shoulder to the wheel to ensure top class entertainment is provided. Venues such as Ashes Bar, Towers Hotel, Rosspoint Bar, Sweeneys Bar and the Red Fox will host music sessions throughout the weekend. “Entertainment is now a huge part of the race meeting as it creates a unique atmosphere. The local businesses invest a great deal of effort in making the weekend a good one and on behalf of the committee I just want to thank all the sponsors and the patrons who every year help make the Glenbeigh Races what it is,” said Moira O’Conner.
