Justthat Charm for Dr David
NOT too long ago, we highlighted a terrific greyhound/ horseracing double involving Dr David O’Brien, of O’Brien Healthcare, Boherbee, Tralee, with the double initiated at Tralee Track by Knocknacree Sky and completed at the Listowel Whit meeting by Davids Charm.
Well, Davids Charm followed up in the finest possible way by coming in as a reserve and running away with a €20,000 handicap hurdle at last week’s Wednesday meeting at the Galway festival – at the handsome odds of 14/1.
Davids Charm is trained in Cork by John J Walsh and none other than David O’Brien’s father, Tom, a prominent medical consultant, heads up the par tnership which owns him.
Whatever about the value of Knocknacree Sky, which is trained by Dan Brassil, the value of David’s Charm has absolutely skyrocketed and his remarkable success cer tainly reflects the equine knowledge and judgement of Tom O’Brien, whose wife, Bridget, is par ticularly strongly identified with O’Brien Healthcare.
The story doesn’t end there either. Come the following Saturday at Galway, Tom O’Brien was back leading another of his charges, Ballyegan Hero, into the winner’s enclosure in a €59,000 handicap hurdle – at odds of 16/1 this time! This fellow is also trained by John J Walsh and was ridded to a thrilling nose victory by Rachael Blackmore.
The odds about the double? No less than 154/1. Wow!
