IRISH DAILY MAIL FAI SENIOR CUP Killarney Celtic v Cobh Wanderers

Saturday August 12 Cobh 4pm HAVING enjoyed a good break after their phenomenal run in the FAI Junior Cup Killarney Celtic are back to competitive football again next Saturday when they travel to Cork to play Cobh Wanderers in the second round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup.

Celtic’s prize for reaching the FAI Junior Cup semi – final was entry to this national competition and they have grabbed it with both arms beating Boyle Celtic 1-0 at Celtic Park in the preliminary round.

Now they are in the last 32 and face an enormous challenge against a very formidable Cobh Wanderers side. Their heavy schedule of games towards the end of the season caught up with Celtic and they lost the Premier A league final and Greyhound Bar Cup finals to their neighbours Killarney Athletic.

However, now they have had a good break recharged the batteries and are ready to compete on the big stage again. There is a well known Tralee man on the Wanderers side in Brian Fitzgerald who is a centre half who played with Tralee Dynamos for a few seasons and also played for their league of Ireland team.

A top class defender Brian is an Intermediate Cup winner and was named Cobh Wanderers player of the year last season. Cobh play in the Munster Senior League and are in the hunt for the league title.

However given their heroics this year Celtic will have no fear of their opponents and will be going into the game confident of getting the result they require. While the odds are against Celtic going into this game they are no strangers to etching out big results in big games and if they play up to par perhaps they can steal a win.

The club are running a supporters bus for the game and a big army of travelling fans could be what they need to produce a shock result and potentially set up a lucrative home tie against possible big guns like Cork City or Shamrock Rovers.

Anyone requiring tickets which must be played for up front should contact Ramona Keogh Burchill at 087 6615532.
