Winning Dingle film to be shown around the world
AN Irish-language film that won the Dingle Film Festival’s Fisín competition will reach an unprecedented international audience this year after being added to the in-flight entertainment by Aer Lingus.
The 17 minute film entitled Stauma, directed by Paul Webster was the winner of the Fisín film competition in 2012.
“Timid ana-shásta” said Fisín organiser, Tor Cotton. “Fostering the language, Irish language in film the film makers” are the core activities of Fisín.”
Fisín is an Irish language film competition, which is organised as part of the Dingle International Film Festival. The competition provides support for selected entrants with ideas to develop and pitch their script to a panel of film industry professionals. The winning script is provided with funding to develop it into a short film which is invited for screening at the following years festival.
Such has been the success of the competition that the winning short films have been selected and screened at Film Festivals from Dublin to Boston. Taking part in the competition has advanced the careers of established and aspiring film makers, with Rúbaí, Antoin Ó Colla’s entry, directed by Louise Ní Fhiannachta, from Baile ‘n Cóta nominated for an IFTA as well being selected for the prestigious Tribeca Film festival. The multi-award winning short film script Uisce Beatha by Elaine Kennedy was also a runner up in the Fisín competition.
