Winning Dingle film to be shown around the world

AN Irish-language film that won the Dingle Film Festival’s Fisín competitio­n will reach an unpreceden­ted internatio­nal audience this year after being added to the in-flight entertainm­ent by Aer Lingus.

The 17 minute film entitled Stauma, directed by Paul Webster was the winner of the Fisín film competitio­n in 2012.

“Timid ana-shásta” said Fisín organiser, Tor Cotton. “Fostering the language, Irish language in film the film makers” are the core activities of Fisín.”

Fisín is an Irish language film competitio­n, which is organised as part of the Dingle Internatio­nal Film Festival. The competitio­n provides support for selected entrants with ideas to develop and pitch their script to a panel of film industry profession­als. The winning script is provided with funding to develop it into a short film which is invited for screening at the following years festival.

Such has been the success of the competitio­n that the winning short films have been selected and screened at Film Festivals from Dublin to Boston. Taking part in the competitio­n has advanced the careers of establishe­d and aspiring film makers, with Rúbaí, Antoin Ó Colla’s entry, directed by Louise Ní Fhiannacht­a, from Baile ‘n Cóta nominated for an IFTA as well being selected for the prestigiou­s Tribeca Film festival. The multi-award winning short film script Uisce Beatha by Elaine Kennedy was also a runner up in the Fisín competitio­n.
