Lisard are the new kids on the block

-

NEW clubs seem to spring up in KDL land every year and this year is no exception with a new Blennerville based club emerging with aspirations of making an impact in Division 2B of the KDL.

Lisard Wanderers panel of players are mainly from the Blennerville and Tralee areas and they are really looking forward to their opening game in the league. The secretary of the club Bobby Hurley says that they have been training for the last two months and will be well prepared for what lies ahead.

“A group of the lads had been playing soccer together every Summer for a while and they decided to have a crack at entering the league.”

Their panel of players are in the 20 to 29 years age bracket. The new club will be playing all their home games a the Mounthawk Park astroturf pitch. He says that it is hard to evaluate how well the team will do but their aim will be to move up the divisions with the progression of time.

“It is difficult to predict how we will do as it may take a few matches for the team to gel together. All the players are really excited at the prospect of playing at competitive level and cant wait for the opening game.

“Our players base is mainly from Blennevville but we also have some players from Abhainn Li side that folded at the end of the season.”

The club has not appointed a manager yet but it is expected it will be a player manager setup.

Asked how the club would finance itself he said they will be self financed in the short term but they will be hoping to secure a club sponsor in the not too distant future.

Everyone involved in the game around the county wish the new club every success for the season ahead.
