Star Wars prompts car parking call
KERRY County Council (KCC) has said it will look into acquiring additional land in Portmagee for car parking and playground facilities should a plot of land become available for purchase.
That was the message to Councillor Michael Cahill, who called on KCC to acquire a site adjacent to Portmagee that would be suitable for such a project.
“The Council should take into consideration the huge success of Star Wars, the large number of visitors to Skellig Michael, and the phenomenal success of the Wild Atlantic Way by acquiring a suitable site as a matter of priority,” the Fianna Fáil Councillor said.
He called for “much needed additional car parking and a playground as a matter of extreme urgency for the lo- cal community and the huge crowds that visit the area”.
However, while the local authority’s Senior Engineer Padraic Teahan said the Council was prepared to examine the possibility, he added that KCC does not have currently have the means to fund a development incorporating both, particularly its car park element.
