Sneem’s Casey to row for Ireland in Worlds

A GRANDNEPHEW of the famous Steve ‘Crusher’ Casey from Sneem has qualified to row in the World Rowing Coastal Championships in France next month.

John Casey, 36, is from Sneem but rows with the Arklow Club in Wicklow, and won gold in the single sculls at the Irish National Championships last week, beating the defending champion by seven lengths.

Victory in the Nationals has qualified Casey, who lives in Gorey, Co Wexford, for the World Championships in Thonon, France from October 13 to 15.

In preparation for that Casey will compete in the Spanish National Championships in Barcelona at the end of September
