HSE re-advertises in its search for full-time Waterville GP

- BY TADHG EVANS

THE Health Service Executive (HSE) has re-advertised a full-time GP position in Waterville as it bids to recruit following the retirement of two GPs from the practice earlier this year.

The advertisement for the position at Waterville Medical Centre was reissued recently and applicants will have until 5pm on Friday, October 6, to apply under this new effort to fill the role under a General Medical Services contract, serving a panel of some 1,400 patients.

The original advertisement was issued at the start of the year following the retirements of Drs Patricia and Dermot Gibson.

“In recent months, patients with medical cards in Waterville have been looked after continuously by a locum GP, following the retirement of two GPs from one practice,” a HSE spokesperson explained to The Kerryman this week.

The locum GP will continue to provide care in Waterville, they added.

The news follows recent difficulties in recruiting a new GP to serve in Sneem village ahead of Dr Patrick Malone’s retirement in October. That position had to be advertised three times before applications were eventually received following a spirited campaign by locals to promote the position.

An applicant has been offered the position in Sneem in the past fortnight following a recent interview process.

Applicants interested in the role in Waterville can access an application form and an amended job specification online at www.hse.ie/eng/staff/ Jobs/Job_Search/Medical_Dental/ General_Practitioners/PM1917.html. Application forms are also available from Áras Sláinte on Wilton Road, Cork city.

Further information is available from Primary Care Unit Manager Michael Butler at either (021) 4923833 or (087) 9068487, or by e-mailing arasslaintereception.south@hse.ie.
