Leahy retires from GDA hurling position

KERRY Hurling Games Developmen­t Administra­tor, Maurice Leahy, retired last week after 28 years working in developing hurling coaching throughout the county.

Having formerly played, managed and trained Kerry hurling teams, the Causeway club man carried out a huge annual work programme including organisati­on of the summer camps, coaching courses, schools coaching, mini-sevens, Gogames, skills competitio­ns, club workshops and the co. under 14, 15 and 16 hurling developmen­t squads.

Very experience­d, Maurice had a great enthusiasm and passion for the job and it is a credit to the work he has carried out during the years that Kerry hurling is of a high standard at club and county levels.

County SHC semi-finals this Sunday

THE long awaited 2017 Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry senior hurling championsh­ip semi-finals will go ahead on this Sunday, 24 September at Austin Stack Park. St. Brendan’s will play Lixnaw at 2pm followed by Kilmoyley versus Ballyduff at 3.45pm. (Replays in the event of a draw on Saturday, September 30.

The final is scheduled for Sunday, October 8.

County Minor Championsh­ip

In the opening quarter finals of the County Minor hurling championsh­ip last Saturday, St. Brendan’s had a very easy 3-19 to 0-4 win over Ballyheigu­e.

In the other quarter-finals South Kerry and Causeway played last evening (Tuesday) at Kilgarvan.

This evening (Wednesday) at 6pm Kilmoyley are at home to Abbeydorne­y/ Tralee Parnells while holders Crotta play Lixnaw at Abbeydorne­y, under lights at 7.30p.m.

Senior Hurling League Division 2

The County Senior hurling league, Division 2 semi-final between Dr. Crokes and Causeway has been re-fixed for Sunday, 1 October. St. Brendan’s meet the winners in the final.

Kerry Minor footballer­s

Well done to the Kerry minor footballer­s on retaining their All-Ireland title last Sunday and congratula­tions in particular to the dual players in the squad - Barry Mahony (Crotta O’Neill’s), Michael Slattery (Abbeydorne­y), Cormac O’Reilly (Tralee Parnell’s) & Gearóid Fennessy (Kilgarvan).
