Leahy retires from GDA hurling position
KERRY Hurling Games Development Administrator, Maurice Leahy, retired last week after 28 years working in developing hurling coaching throughout the county.
Having formerly played, managed and trained Kerry hurling teams, the Causeway club man carried out a huge annual work programme including organisation of the summer camps, coaching courses, schools coaching, mini-sevens, Gogames, skills competitions, club workshops and the co. under 14, 15 and 16 hurling development squads.
Very experienced, Maurice had a great enthusiasm and passion for the job and it is a credit to the work he has carried out during the years that Kerry hurling is of a high standard at club and county levels.
County SHC semi-finals this Sunday
THE long awaited 2017 Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry senior hurling championship semi-finals will go ahead on this Sunday, 24 September at Austin Stack Park. St. Brendan’s will play Lixnaw at 2pm followed by Kilmoyley versus Ballyduff at 3.45pm. (Replays in the event of a draw on Saturday, September 30.
The final is scheduled for Sunday, October 8.
County Minor Championship
In the opening quarter finals of the County Minor hurling championship last Saturday, St. Brendan’s had a very easy 3-19 to 0-4 win over Ballyheigue.
In the other quarter-finals South Kerry and Causeway played last evening (Tuesday) at Kilgarvan.
This evening (Wednesday) at 6pm Kilmoyley are at home to Abbeydorney/ Tralee Parnells while holders Crotta play Lixnaw at Abbeydorney, under lights at 7.30p.m.
Senior Hurling League Division 2
The County Senior hurling league, Division 2 semi-final between Dr. Crokes and Causeway has been re-fixed for Sunday, 1 October. St. Brendan’s meet the winners in the final.
Kerry Minor footballers
Well done to the Kerry minor footballers on retaining their All-Ireland title last Sunday and congratulations in particular to the dual players in the squad - Barry Mahony (Crotta O’Neill’s), Michael Slattery (Abbeydorney), Cormac O’Reilly (Tralee Parnell’s) & Gearóid Fennessy (Kilgarvan).
