Kenmare win a thriller with Rangers

-

Kenmare District 3-9 Shannon Rangers 1-14

THIS was arguably the best game of the day, a real thriller that saw two of the greatest sharpshooters in the competition duke it out to huge applause and great excitement. Jack Kennelly opened the scoring for Shannon Rangers and Colin Crowley replied, and those two would sparkle in the headlights all day.

It was 0-3 apiece when Crowley fed Cian O’Connor at close range and the net billowed. A minute later Crowley on a surging run gathered from Cian Hanley and he confidently blasted home.

Jack Kennelly briefly stemmed the momentum with a free but Crowley struck again and it was 3-3 to 0-4. Kennelly added another free and Kevin Goulding hit a great goal to give Shannon Rangers hope.

Kenmare closed out the half well, though, with points from Colin Crowley, Tom Murnane, and Cian O’Connor. The half-time score was Kenmare District 3-6 Shannon Rangers 1-5.

Shannon Rangers took over in the third quarter – the strong wind in their favour was a factor, but far from the only one. Luke O’Donovan pointed from play while the unerring Jack Kennelly added five majestic frees to his tally.

At 3-8 to 1-11, the game was getting tight. Dan McCarthy, impressive all through, pushed the lead out to four, but back came James Donerghan with a long range monster score for Shannon Rangers. Colin Crowley replied with quite possibly the best point of the day.
