Causeway Macra keep it local

CAUSEWAY was alive with the sound of pounding feet on Saturday morning as close to 100 runners took to the streets for the inaugural Causeway Macra charity run.

The run, which was in aid of Down Syndrome Kerry, was organised by John Casey and his team at the Causeway Macra and by all measures of success, John said that he couldn’t be happier with how it went.

“It all went very well, we were lucky that the rain stayed away, so it wasn’t too bad. We’re delighted with the turnout and the support that we received,” said John, talking to The Kerryman on Monday.

There were two routesthe day, a 10k and a 5k run, with the hardier runners keen to test themselves on the longer route, while families and walkers were happy to take a nice morning stroll along the 5k route.

“My brother has Down Syndrome so I’ve seen first hand the great work and services that they do and provide. We wanted to keep things local with this run and so Down Syndrome Kerry were the first charity that we thought of,” he said.

Based on the success of this year’s event, John says that he and the rest of the organising committee are confident that the run will return again in 2018.

“It’s something that we want to make a yearly thing out of; we might look at changing dates next year perhaps though”

“It’s certainly an event that people can look forward to on the Causeway calendar.” he said.
