- By STEPHEN FERNANE

IT’S 1964 and Madge Molloy has lived for over 40 years of her life wondering why husband Tom, who after just five months marriage, disappeared without a trace. The arrival of a new curate to the parish is about to throw light on the circumstances surrounding Tom’s mysterious disappearance. With two love stories, a dominant wife, a frightened husband, a confused curate, a gormless postman and two pedigree gossips; this production has all the ingredients for an unforgettable night of entertainment.

‘The Real McCoy’ is the latest theatrical venture by Killorglin Drama Group who take the stage on October 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 8pm. Written by Tommy Marren from Sligo, the play is the first performance by the Killorglin Drama Group since 2014 and between readings and rehearsals, the production has been part and parcel of their lives for 12 months with long rehearsals during winter and summer evenings making it a labour of love. The play features a cast of 7 actors, including co-directors, stage management and props.

“The last couple of months have been pretty intense to say the least and there is a lot of work involved,” said Kathleen Foley, PRO.

“Over 20 members will be part of this production and we’re very excited as it’s a very well written play that incorporates humour and everyday themes of 1960s Ireland. People should come out and see this play, they won’t be disappointed,” she added.

Killorglin Drama Group is made up of amateur actors from the south Kerry region, many of whom have experience of the CYMS Hall Players. Killorglin Drama Group have always held a deep-rooted interest in promoting new talent in drama, poetry, writing and all forms of literary and performing arts.

The group have always had a desire to travel internationally and share their work with the diaspora. They have brought the works of John B. Keane across the globe to venues in Australia, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, New York, Denver, San Francisco, and memorably to Monte Carlo in 2012 when performing the ‘The Field’. They also performed ‘Callaghan’s Place’ in London in 2014.
