Milltown gets the Fleadh!

-

FLEADH Cheoil Chiarraí returns to Milltown ten years since it was last held in the musical mid-Kerry village, after the local Comhaltas committee’s bid won out in a vote over Listowel last week.

And Milltown is already gearing up for one hell of a county Fleadh come June of next year with preparations underway for a vibrant programme of competition and on-street music, amid so much else.

Milltown-Listry Comhaltas stalwart Denis Courtney is credited as one of the key figures behind the successful bid and he communicated Milltown’s delight on the news following the meeting of the Kerry CCÉ County Board in the Rose Hotel.

“We’re honoured and delighted to be bringing the Fleadh back to Milltown,” said Denis Courtney of Milltown-Listry Comhaltas. “The Fleadh Cheoil is the top traditional music event in the county annually and we are already busy putting a comprehensive programme of events together which will appeal to everyone and all ages,” Denis said.

To take place over five days from June 20 to 24 next year, Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí will draw the trad-mad masses to the village from all over the Kingdom and beyond.

“Milltown is fortunate to be well-equipped with modern facilities and the capacity to host large numbers of visitors in a central location so we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Milltown on the third weekend of June next summer,” Denis added. Chairman of the CCÉ County Board John Canty meanwhile congratulated Milltown on its achievement.
