Kerry crumble in U-17 Shield

-

SSE AIRTRICITY U-17 SHIELD Kerry 1 Limerick 5

KERRY bowed out of the U-17 Shield in disappointing fashion at Mounthawk Park on Sunday losing to Limerick. Everything went wrong for Kerry just before half time when their goalkeeper Alex O’Connor picked up an injury and replacement goalie Robert Osbourne was also out injured John Ward was left with the task of fulfilling goalkeeping duties. They were 2-1 down at half time and still very much in the game but Limerick took control of the game in the second half and ran out easy winners at the end. Martin Coughlan was the Kerry scorer.

This game brings the curtain down on the under 17 season and the players and management can look back with a fair degree of satisfaction on a season that showed a lot of positives.

While they never featured in the race to reach the knock out stages after a poor start to the season they came good and recorded some fine victories.

During the league programme they were great ambassadors of Kerry underage football and hopefully many of these players will go on to feature prominently with their clubs.

Manager Darren Aherne can feel very proud of his charges and and all the Kerry management team can take a bow at a job well done.

KERRY: Alex O’Connor, John Hayes, John Ward, Ronan Cahill, James Rusk, Sheagh O’Connor, Paddy O’Rourke, Kevin Williams, Michael O’Gara, Dillon Robinson, Martin Coughlan, Dylan Murphy.
