Ten years on, Transition Kerry out to tackle climate change

ALMOST 10 years on from when they first imagined how the effects of climate change would have impacted Tralee and Kerry by the year 2030, the team at Transition Kerry are planning a public gathering to help plan for the next three years.

The team are preparing to hold a public gathering in the Siamsa Tíre theatre in Tralee on Saturday, November 11, to talk about this how climate change can be tackled on a community level. There will be a range of speakers on climate change and community resilience, including experts such as journalist John Gibbons, Dr Cara Agustenborg and Dr Margaret Desmond, speaking on the day.

The day will look to address how communities can respond and become more resilient in the face of the increasing challenges of climate change, national policy, food security, biodeiversity loss, sustainable energy and partnerships with community groups and government structures.

There will also be a number of short presentations on the day from the Kerry Sustainable Energy Co-operative and Transition Kerry, who will be outlining their next three-year plan. Organisers are hoping that there will be a strong local community representation at the event.
