Ardert Athletics celebrates 30 years

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

IT’S been quite the 30 years for the team behind the St Brendan’s Athletic club in Ardfert as they celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the clubs’ founding.

Founded in 1987 on a foundation of tremendous success by previous local clubs, there was immediate reward for the club after it was awarded 10 ‘Best Club Awards’.

Munster and international success was soon to follow over the years for the club, with Owen McCarthy, Freda Doveran, Joseph O’Halloran, Ailbhe Courtney and Katie O’Riordan just some of the international athletes that the club has produced.

Officials say that they are delighted with the evolution of the club over the last thirty years and are determined to continue this trend over the coming years; they have launched a new club logo entitled ‘Athletics For All’ which is aimed at welcoming athletes of all abilities and ages to come and train with the club.

The club will hold an open night for over 18’s in O’Donnells Bar in Mounthawk on Saturday October 14 at 8pm.
