From Killarney to Dublin in aid of Temple Street Hospital
WHEN Declan O’Donoghue’s five-yearold niece suffered a brain haemorrhage during the summer she received the best of care at Temple Street Hospital, Dublin. This prompted Declan and his friends to do something positive to show their appreciation to the staff at the hospital which is when Declan, Arthur Fitzgerald and Sean Moynihan decided to cycle to Dublin and raise some money. A team of 14 cyclists will now leave Killarney for Dublin on Saturday, October 28 at 8.30am.
Declan is involved with Killarney Triathlon and he recently represented Ireland in Rotterdam at the World Triathlon Championships, so he is fit and ready for the challenge. Kerry legend Seamus Moynihan (Sean’s brother) and rugby star Alan Quinlan are also expected to join in.
A recent coffee morning in Tipperary raised €1,650 for Temple Street Hospital and the cycling will leave Killarney for The Horse & Jockey Pub in Tipperary before heading on to Dublin the next day - roughly 160km of a cycle each day. Michael and Danny Healy-Rae will see the cyclists off from The Glebe, Killarney on the 28, while Mattie McGrath TD will greet them in Tipperary.
“We’re just hoping as many people as possible will come out along the way and support what is a great facility that helps so many children around Ireland. We hope to raise around €5,000, but we’re hopeful to get as much as we can,” said Declan.
