THE Old Kenmare Walk has just completed another memorable trek from scenic Kenmare to Torc, Killarney raising vital funds for MS.
This is the fifteenth year of the walk which has so far managed to raise an incredible €300,000, while the total raised at this year’s walk won’t be known until all donations have been counted.
Over 240 people turned up last Sunday for what was a beautiful (if rare) sunny day. The money is raised locally and is spent locally for the MS South Kerry Branch’s facilities such as Cheshire Home. John O’Shea is behind the fundraising effort each year and he thanked O’Callaghan’s Coaches, The Gleneagle Hotel and members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team who all rowed in to make the day a special one.
“It’s terrific in the sense we manage to keep our numbers up every year and people really enjoy taking part in the walk for what is a great cause,” said John.
“The final figure raised for this year will be announced at Christmas when a special
presentation takes place. I just want to thank all the walkers for coming on the day, as well as the sponsors who are extremely kind in lending their support,” he added.
