Drag Hunt attracts competitors from Ireland and beyond
A MAJOR Drag Hunt Beagle Racing event took place in Valentia and Portmagee recently.
This included the All-Ireland Drag Hunt heats which took place in the land of Michael Keating and much of the Pound area of Portmagee. Competitors came from as far afield as Cumbria, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Cavan, Tyrone, Cork city, Cork county and, of course, Kerry.
The following day the Dan O’Connor Memorial Drag Hunt, now in it’s fourth year, took place with prizes awarded in the Ring Lyne Bar and Restaurant. It commemorates the memory of Dan O’Connor of Ballymanach, Valentia, a very keen and much loved beagle owner, who passed away four years ago at a young age and who left a young family.
Patrick O’Donoghue of Chapeltown was the MC as Dan O’Connor Memorial prizes were presented: Gerry O’Driscoll of Portmagee won the Senior Cup with the Maiden being won by Bobby Burton of Valentia and the Puppy Race taken by Joe Harty of Ballinskelligs.
