TOWNS IN FUNDS FOR RENEWAL

A NUMBER of long-awaited projects right across the county are finally in line to be realised after more than €868,000 in funding was announced for Kerry under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

Widely welcomed by local politicians last week, it is set to provide for everything from new public toilets in Ballybunion to a boost in broadband office space in Sneem.

Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council John Sheahan welcomed the announcement as ‘great news for Kerry’.

“This is great news for Kerry and is a very welcome investment in community, enterprise, infrastructure and social facilities in the county. In all, 13 projects in towns and villages have been approved for investment which will greatly enhance those areas,” Cllr Sheahan said.

Kerry County Council Chief Executive Moira Murrell meanwhile said that the funding allocated came about through then authority’s committement to sourcing co-funding for the projects listed under the budget.

The projects to benefit are: Ardfert Public Toilets and Coach Parking Facilities (€100,000); Ballybunion, beach toilets and shop units (€100,000); Ballyheigue enhancement works and signage (€55,600); Caherciveen research and innovation (€80,000);

Castleisland refurbishment of Roof and Tourist office (€84,171.60); Dingle Creativity and Innovation Hub (€56,000); Farranfore ‘Public Realm and Street Scape’ (€40,000); Kenmare heritage enhancement and permanent infrastructure (€24,100); Killorglin Branding and Marketing Project (€64,480);

Listowel Economic Action Plan web Site (€40,000); Milltown Youth Café, Refurbish Youth Club, Public Toilets (€78,400); Rathmore enhancement works (€100,000); Sneem skills register (€45,720).
