Betty empties coffee jar for day care centre
WHEN Betty O’Connell and her staff took over the reins at Kearney’s Bar in August 2015 one of the first decisions they made was to place a special jar on a shelf behind the counter.
A twin decision was made to donate the takings from coffee and tea drinkers to various charities.
The first they picked was the Jack and Jill Foundation and they presented area representative, Sheila Maher with a cheque for over €1,000 one afternoon around this time last year.
“We often get people dropping in for a bit of a break from whatever they’re at on a given day and they’ll have a cup of tea or coffee.
“We decided some time ago to put the money from these away for charity and that’s what you see on the cheque today.
“We’re starting off now with an empty jar again and when it’s full we’ll donate it to our neighbours at Castleisland Day Care Centre,” said Betty.
The jar was full again last week and, as good as her word, Betty made the short trip down Creamery Lane to Castleisland Day Care Centre with the contents transferred to paper.
The jar is back in place and now and collecting away mad for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.
