Scart ladies on All-Britain GAA C’ship winning team

-

HANNAH Fortune and Norita McCarthy are both from Scartaglen and both are living and working in London.

They grew up playing football with Scartaglin Ladies Football Club. On Saturday, September 30, they won the All-Britain Junior football club championship finals with London club, Kingdom Kerry Gaels Ladies Club.

The final was played in Oxford on Saturday at 2pm and they defeating Roger Casements of Warwickshire.

They will now play a team from mainland Europe on October 14.

Kingdom Kerry Gaels Ladies Club was founded in the late 1990s, originally as part of the Kerry Gaels Men’s Club which then merged with The Kingdom in 1999 to form Kingdom Kerry Gaels.

KKG Ladies competed at junior level in London in the early years before seeing success in 2002 and 2003 when winning back to back London junior championship titles.

After five years competing in the senior grade and the team in transition with a number of new players, the ladies team felt it would be beneficial to their side to step down to junior grade and regroup at that level.

The Kingdom Kerry Gaels Ladies Club junior team has had some great hours on the playing fields so far this season but Saturday’s victory capped it all. And the Scart women were part of it all. Up Scart and a tip to the peak of the cap to Cordal.
