Blasket lamb on the menu in Cork

-

CORK’S Market Lane Group of restaurants will have lamb from the Blasket Islands on their menus from this Wednesday (October 11), giving city dwellers a rare chance to savour the award-winning meat

The event, now in its eighth year, lasts until the lamb is all eaten – usually by the end of the month – and during that time the Market Lane, Orso and Elbow Lane restaurants and the Castle Café will offer special lamb dishes such as Elbow Lager Lamb Pie, Blasket Lamb Leg in Fish Sauce, and Moroccan Braised Lamb Shank.

The lambs are raised by Donnacha Ó Ceilleachair on the Blasket islands and Dingle butcher Jerry Kennedy, who also sells the meat in his shop in Orchard Lane, selects the lambs that are to be dispatched to Cork, where their “impeccable provenance” is greatly appreciated.
