Fishermen join litter campaign
DINGLE port has joined the ‘Fishing For Litter’ national network which sees local fishermen working together with BIM to address the marine litter issue in an attempt to decrease the levels of marine debris.
Fishing For Litter is a recognised EU scheme that asks fishermen to collect the litter that comes up in nets and keep it on board their boats so that it can be disposed of properly. Filled bags are deposited on the quayside at participating harbours and they are moved by harbour staff to a dedicated skip or bin for disposal.
