The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Quinn takes positives from West Kerry display
YOU feel West Kerry are in a bit of a crux. Despite the genuine progress made this year, the district maybe be back to square one with a potential victory for An Ghaeltacht in the Intermediate Final likely to robbed them of the core of their side for 2018 but manager Paul Quinn was happy with some of the positives the district could take out of their campaign overall.
“Firstly I felt the players gave a much better account of themselves that the game in Lewis Road last year despite the three late goals probably bringing it a bit closer to that scoreline (May 2016). We started well but we didn’t take our chances and Crokes went down the other end and punished us with the scores they tagged. I was very happy with some of the turnovers we forced in the second half even if accuracy left us down in the end when we got in for scoring chances,” the West Kerry boss said.
Overall Quinn viewed the campaign as a positive one despite a flat ending.
“We got five County Championship matches which will bring the players on no end despite the flat ending here today. I think today showed the clinical levels that Crokes are playing at when they find their range like they did at times. The age profile of the team is good however and I would say that the curve is very much going the right way for them. If An Ghaeltacht win the Intermediate Final and go senior then that’s a bridge we will have to cross when the time comes,” he said.
It’s interesting to note from a read of the match programme last Saturday that it’s a prospect the County Championship Review Committee are discussing prior to their report at the November meeting of the County Committee.
