Veteran O’Shea makes cameo appearance as Corca Dhuibhne claim Mary Jo Curran ‘B’ title

CORCA Dhuibhne are the 2017 Mary Jo Curran are the 2017 Mary Jo Curran B winners after an exciting win over a gallant Kilcummin side in Strand Road last Sunday.

Former Kerry star Geraldine O’Shea was inspiratio­nal for the West Kerry side and showed her vast experience and class in an excellent second half cameo in the forward line.

The Corca Dhuibhne attacking division were too slick for their Kilcummin counterpar­ts and Niamh Ni Chonchuir, Ceiti Ni Luing, and Clodagh Ni Shiurdain were dangerous throughout.

Neasa Ni Luing and Eimear Ni Chonchuir were excellent in the backline for a Corca Dhuibhne side that trailed by 2-3 to 1-5 at half time.

Debbie Murphy was the star for Kilcummin with a fine scoring tally of 2-6 while she had able back up from Kate Maher, Fiona McSweeney, Amy O’Sullivan and Maggie O’Doherty.

Corca Dhuibhne captain Neasa Gromail accepted the trophy after the game and she gave a rousing speech as Gaeilge much to the delight of their delighted supporters.

COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 4 FINAL Fossa 4-11 Clounmacon/Moyvane 3-4

FOSSA were too slick for a battling Clounmacon/Moyvane side in John Mitchels complex last Sunday. The young Killarney side had stand out performanc­es all through the field with Maud Kelly, Anna O’Reilly Anna Clifford, Shelly Clifford and Erika McGlynn the pick of what was an excellent team effort. Fossa did the main damage in the first half and led by 2-6 to 0-2 at the break.

Clounmacon/Moyvane did have a right go of it in the second period and 2 goals by substitute Ciara Haugh gave them a glimmer of hope as Erin Finucane, Louise Horgan and Muirne Wall (who won the U-18 provincial rugby championsh­ip the previous day with Munster), kept the fight going for their side.

Fossa had the better balance overall however and were deserving 10-point winners.
